Local and Regional Government Services
SMS has significant expertise to carry out a range of harbourmaster and waterways related services specialising in the adventure tourism industry. Staff have been at the forefront of the development of control bylaws incorporating standards and licensing for craft used in the adventure tourism industry on inland waterways. These services include waterways patrol education and water safety promotion and the development of boating guides for recreational users. Staff also have expertise in the development of district and regional plan rules as they relate to water based activities and events.
Maritime Rule Part 80 and Safe Ship Management
Staff who are MSA 'Authorised Persons' perform the requirements of Rule Part 80 in relation to commercial rafting and jet boat operations. This includes the approval and audit of Safe Operational Plans and the issuing of certificates of compliance under the Maritime Transport Act 1994.
Staff are recognised sub-contractors for Survey Nelson and perform Safe Ship Management (SSM) surveys for the Maritime Industry throughout New Zealand.
