New Zealand BioSecure Entomology Laboratory
NZBEL has been in operation since 2001 and provides entomology identification services and technical advice for the Ministry of Health, New Zealand's 12 District Health Boards and a range of other clients including Border Health training for Authorised Officers.
We operate from two sites, Lincoln Canterbury and Gracefield Research Site, Lower Hutt. Contact details for the sites can be found in the
Contact us section. We work in conjunction with Mosquito Consulting Services (NZ) Ltd.
Our Taxonomists, who are now employed by Mosquito Consulting Services Ltd, are continually involved in collaborative research projects with other organisations including Crown Research Institutes, Regional Councils, Victoria University and MAF/BNZ as well as industry and private organisations. Past projects have included product testing for Mosquito, Blackfly and Willow Sawfly control, design and testing of insect traps, Mosquito and Tick taxonomy and ecology and vectors and vector-borne disease investigation. Information on some of our current projects can be accessed here - Research/Projects. Our laboratory information brochure can be downloaded from
Service Brochures. Additional PDF's and hard copies may also be available on request.
