What are Dust Mites?

Dust mites are microscopic (can't generally see with the naked eye) eight legged creatures closely related to spiders.
The dust mite eats dead skin cells and the proteins in their waste products (faeces) can cause allergic reactions in people. Dust Mites can be found anywhere around the home, but highest concentrations are found in bedrooms and soft furnishings where we sit and lie. We shed skin cells all the time, if you have a dust mite allergy its a good idea to bath or shower before bed, to remove some of those deads cells. Dust mites also feed off pet dander so ensuring your pets bedding is cleaned regularly helps keep dust mite numbers low.  More.
